As architects and lovers of history, it is a true joy when clients come to us seeking a period appropriate renovation. This stately Victorian home had already been lovingly decorated in the traditional style by the homeowners, and they had completed several small interior projects over the years that replicated Victorian trim details. Now they desired a new garage to match their house, as well as a master closet and spacious master bathroom. The addition was placed at the rear of the home, with new steps, custom oak doors, and porch with custom brackets. The new living space features an oak coffered ceiling to match the older trim elsewhere in the house. Brass light fixtures and period-appropriate wallpaper complete the Victorian style. On the second floor of the addition is the master bathroom, with a new freestanding tub, large marble shower, and his and hers vanities. The homeowner chose a pretty powder blue wallpaper as an accent feature, which was trimmed out like a picture frame. The master closet features lots of open hanging space, custom drawers, and glass doors to display accessories. Altogether, the new spaces fit perfectly with the original Victorian home. It may not be particularly trendy to decorate in the Victorian style these days, but we were so pleased to be involved with this project and honor the architecture of this Victorian beauty.
